Jam 2-sided

If the Paper LED is on / the machine's control panel or the Status Monitor displays there is a jam in the 2-sided paper tray, do the following steps.

 

NOTE: Illustrations shown below are from a representative product and may differ from your Brother machine.
 

  1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

    Pull the paper tray 
  2. At the back of the machine, pull the 2‑sided tray completely out of the machine.

    Pull the 2-sided tray 
  3. Pull the jammed paper out of the machine or out of the 2‑sided tray.

  4. Remove paper that may have jammed under the machine due to static electricity.

  5. If paper is not caught inside the 2-sided tray, open the back cover.

    HOT SURFACE

    The machine's internal parts will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before touching them.

  6. Use both hands to gently pull the jammed paper out of the back of the machine.


    Gentlly pull the jammed paper 
  7. Close the back cover until it locks in the closed position.
  8. Put the 2-sided tray firmly back in the machine.
  9. Put the paper tray firmly back in the machine.

Jam Rear

If a paper jam occurs behind the back cover, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the front cover.

  2. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly from the machine.

  3. Open the back cover.

  4. Pull the blue tabs at the left and right sides toward you to release the fuser cover.

  5. Use both hands to gently pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.

  6. Close the fuser cover. Make sure the blue tabs at the left and right sides lock into place.

  7. Close the back cover until it locks in the closed position.

    If the paper is often jammed at the back of the machine, open the back cover and try printing documents.

  8. Reinstall the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine.

  9. Close the front cover.

Jam Inside (With Video Instructions)

  1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

  2. Pull out the jammed paper slowly.

  3. Open the front cover.

  4. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly.

    HOT SURFACE

    Internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the machine.

  5. Pull out the jammed paper slowly.

  6. Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.

  7. Look for and remove any scraps of paper from inside the drum.
        
  8. Put the toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place.

  9. Install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly into the machine.

  10. Close the front cover of the machine.

Jam Tray (1)

 

If a paper jam occurs inside the paper tray, follow these steps:

  1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

    Pull the paper tray 
  2. Slowly pull out the jammed paper.
    Pulling the jammed paper downward using both hands allows you to remove the paper more easily.

    Pull out the jammed paperMake sure that the paper is below the maximum paper mark (Maximum Paper Mark) .Make sure the paper is below the maximum paper mark 
  3. Slide the paper guides to fit the paper size.

  4. Put the paper tray firmly back in the machine.
