The product stops printing and a 'Paper Jam' error message displays on the computer. The Attention light at the top of the control panel blinks.

Solution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue. It might not be necessary to complete all the steps.
NOTE:Paper jam messages can be true or false. The product might report a paper jam when there is not any paper jam. The following steps resolve both true and false paper jam messages.
CAUTION:Do not use sharp objects, such as tweezers or needle-nose pliers, to remove jams. Damage they cause is not covered by the warranty.Paper jams might result in loose toner on the page. If you get any toner on your clothes, wash them in cold water. Hot water permanently sets the toner into the fabric.When you remove jammed paper, pull the jammed paper straight away from the product. Pulling jammed paper out of the product at an angle can damage the product.
Step one: Remove any loose paper first
Remove all loose paper from the main tray, the priority feed slot, and the output bin.
CAUTION:Do not try to remove jammed paper at this stage.
Step two: Clear the jam
Follow these steps to remove jammed paper from the product.
- Open the print cartridge door, and then remove the print cartridge.
NOTE:
To prevent damage to the product when clearing jams, including jams in the output bin, always open the print cartridge door and remove the print cartridge. Keep the door open and the print cartridge out until you clear the jam. Opening the print cartridge door and removing the print cartridge relieves tension on the printer rollers, which prevents damage to the product and makes removing jammed paper easier.Figure : Open the print cartridge door and remove the print cartridgeCAUTION:
To prevent damage to the print cartridge, cover it with a sheet of paper to minimize exposure to direct light. - With both hands, grasp the paper where it is most visible, including the middle, and then carefully pull the paper straight out of the product.Figure : Remove jammed paper
- Look inside the product for any torn pieces of paper or labels, and then remove them.
- If any jammed paper remains in the input trays or the output tray, grasp the paper where it is most visible, including the middle, and then carefully pull the paper straight out of the product.
- Reinstall the print cartridge, and then close the print cartridge door.Figure : Reinstall the print cartridge and close the print cartridge door
Step three: Reset the printer
- Press the Power switch on the rear of the product to turn it off.Figure : Power switch
- Press the Go button (
) and Cancel button (
) at the same time. Hold the buttons while you press the Power switch to turn on the product. Keep the buttons depressed. The lights begin to flash in sequence.
- Release the buttons when the Go, Ready, and Attention lights begin to flash in unison.
Step four: Reload paper
- Slide the paper length and width guides to their outermost positions.
- Tap a stack of plain, white paper on a flat surface to align the edges.
NOTE:
Do not fan paper before loading. To loosen the ream, hold it firmly in both hands, and then twist the media by rotating your hands in the opposite direction. - Load the paper into the input tray with the narrow edge first and the print side facing up.
- Slide the paper length and width guides inward until they stop at the edges of the paper.
Step five: Check the print settings
Follow these steps to check and adjust print settings for the current software program.
NOTE:Steps can vary depending on the software program.
- From the File menu in the software program, click Print.
- In the Print dialog box, click Properties.
- Check the settings on the Paper/Quality tab, change them if necessary, and then click OK.
- Try printing again.
- If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
- If the issue persists, continue to the next step.
Step six: Clean the print cartridge area
During the printing process, paper, toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the product and might cause paper jams. Follow these steps to clean the print cartridge area.
- Turn the product off, and then disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and the electrical outlet. Wait for the product to cool.Figure : Disconnect power cord
- Open the print cartridge door, and then remove the print cartridge.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the print cartridge, cover it with a sheet of paper to minimize exposure to direct light. - With a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe any residue from the paper path area and the print cartridge cavity.
CAUTION:
Do not touch the black-sponge transfer roller inside the product. By doing so, you can damage the product.Figure : Clean the print cartridge cavity - Reinstall the print cartridge, and then close the print cartridge door.
- Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product and the electrical outlet.
- Turn on the product.
- Try printing again.
- If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
- If the issue persists, continue to the next step.
